*We recently interviewed the cast of the critically acclaimed, “Blindspotting,” for its season two premiere. The show is heralded as a unique series that explores the complexities of race, identity, incarceration, and gentrification in Oakland, California.
“Blindspotting” centers around best friends Miles and Collin, played by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs. April Absynth plays Jacque, while Lance Holloway plays her banker boyfriend, Cuddie.
Dante Basco makes an appearance as himself and Jacque’s dad.
“I’m from the bay [they’ve] been so inspirational,” said Basco. “And seeing these cats from the neighborhood like as an artist put something out there that is us. Our voice, our vision. Things that go from the visual, from filmmaking to spoken word to dance to lyricism. It’s like this is us. The maturation of our generation is coming off the screen.”

As for what fans can expect in the upcoming season, the cast was tight-lipped, but they did tease themes explored in season one will be taken to new heights.
Absynthe said the characters really begin to open up as they learn more and as we dive more into their everyday lives.
“What I love about season two is that they really show have the person behind the profession and so they humanized Jaccque a little bit more,” said Absynthe. “They showed that she was a daughter, she is a family person and she is all about love and that she’s in love with Cuddie. I’m so grateful that Daveed and Rafa really just created that space. “
Holloway highlighted the importance of having a show that speaks to the experiences of Oakland residents.
“It’s how we talk and it’s the dialect and how Raf and Daveed are. We use spoken word and dance to communicate feelings. The Bay is just a melting pot of cultures and we respect these cultures,” said Holloway.
Season two of “Blindspotting” airs Fridays on STARZ.
