The Black Star Line Festival is taking place in Jamaica later this year and preparations are well underway. Chance the Rapper recently met with US Ambassador to Jamaica, Nick Perry, to talk logistics on in April. The official Twitter account of the United States Embassy in Jamaica tweeted a picture of Chance’s visit to the embassy.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon that aired in March, Chance The Rapper revealed the festival’s plans to move to Jamaica. “We’re actually thinking about hosting the next one in Kingston, Jamaica,” he said during the interview. “We’re still working it out in our heads. And we love the city of Accra and Ghana and West Africa as a whole. We just want to continue to, like, create community in other spaces.”
Black Culture And Diversity At The Center Of Black Star Line Festival
The Black Star Line Festival is a music festival organized by Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa. The festival aims to showcase Black culture and promote diversity in the music industry. It has previously been held in Chicago and Atlanta, and it was expanded to Ghana for the first time in January this year.
In Ghana, the festival featured performances by Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, T-Pain, Jeremih, Sarkodie, Tobe Nwigwe, Asakaa Boys, and M.anifest.
A press release claimed that 52,000 people attended the festival on Friday night at Black Star Square, a landmark commemorating Ghana’s independence from colonial rule in 1957.
“The Black Star Line Festival is more than just a celebration of Black culture and music, it’s a chance for the Diaspora to come together as a community and remind ourselves of the power that lies within us,” Chance said in a statement. “It’s an opportunity to honor the legacy of those who came before us, and to inspire and uplift each other. It’s a historic event and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Black Star Line Festival.”
