*Fat Joe will reportedly perform Thursday in Washington, D.C. for an event hosted by Power to the Patients.
The “Power to the Patients” campaign was launched in 2021 to raise awareness about the hidden prices of healthcare. Per a news release, healthcare costs “are a patient’s right prior to receiving care.”
Fat Joe supports the organization’s efforts to force hospital billing transparency. According to TMZ, the rapper has tapped Busta Rhymes, French Montana, and Rick Ross to perform with him in the nation’s capital this week.
“We have to change the healthcare system and hold hospitals and insurers accountable to provide more transparency on the price of care. They are charging way too much money and the bills are not even consistent,” Fat Joe said in a statement.

We proudly stand with patients, nurses, families, employers, and unions across the country who demand a more affordable, equitable, and honest healthcare system. We need hospital prices and transparency in healthcare. #powertothepatients@fatjoe @potus @whitehouse @CMSgov… pic.twitter.com/KiotQarFb9

“Somebody could get an MRI for $300 and someone right behind them could be paying thousands for the same MRI. Right now, millions across the country are being dragged into debt because they’re blindsided by the cost of these medical bills,” the statement continued.
Fat Joe added, “Families are falling apart. People are losing their homes. People are getting bankrupted because of hospital bills and healthcare. Knowing prices is the only way we will be able to lower our costs in healthcare. So, we have to fight for the people. We all have to talk to our politicians and talk to everybody. It’s in the law that hospitals and insurers need to post prices and we all need to know this.”
The New York native teamed up with Power to the Patients “to educate our communities on their rights and help put an end to this injustice,” he said.
Approximately one-quarter of hospitals actually comply with the federal Hospital Price Transparency Rule, according to Power to the Patients. The organization and Fat Joe are fighting for new legislation to support their cause for this reason.
