*The Tony award-winning musical “1776” has been revived and the curtain has risen at the historic Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles.
The production written by Peter Stone and lyricist/composer Sherman Edwards was first introduced in the late 1960s.
It brings to life a reenactment of the writing of The Declaration of Independence.
The spirited revival presents an all-female and female-identifying cast who embody our forefathers in all of their stains and glory.
History and music buffs are sure to be titillated by this cast of powerful singers, spritely actors, and a variety of performers.

Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus (“Jagged Little Pill,” “Waitress,” “Pippin”) and MTV Music Video Award-winning choreographer Jeffrey L. Page (Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls)” video, “Memphis” in Tokyo; “Violet” starring Sutton Foster at Roundabout Theatre Company) direct the production.
Outstanding mentions go to Gisela Adesa who portrayed John Adams, Oneika Phillips who portrayed President of the Continental Congress John Hancock, Brook Simpson who played the Courier, Shawna Hamic who played Richard Henry Lee, and the irrepressible Liz Mikel who commanded the stage as Benjamin Franklin and albeit non-intentional, conjured the very essence of the late great Della Reese.
