Countess Vaughn is showing solidarity with her former TV mom, Mo’Nique.
The Oscar-winning actress settled with Netflix last year after accusing the streaming giant of “racial and gender bias” after she claims she was low-balled in her offer for a standup comedy special – noting her male and white counterparts were offered millions of dollars more.
The result was her latest special My Name is Mo’Nique, which has been a social media discussion. Now, she is filing suit against CBS/Paramount for royalties for The Parkers, and her co-star Countess Vaughn supports it all.
The Parkers aired for five seasons on UPN for 1999-2004. The Moesha spinoff followed the mother-duo daughter, Nikki and Kim Parker, as they attended a junior college together.
On April 13, Mo’Nique took to Instagram to confirm reports of her legal suit against CBS/Paramount. She explains that she hasn’t – or has barely – received royalties as the show remains in syndication and available to stream on various platforms.
She wrote in her caption, in part: “Actors rely on the good faith of Hollywood companies to honor their profit participation agreements. The Parkers was a huge success and continues to be a source of revenue through syndication and streaming channels. To further make my point, the Executive Producers of “The Parkers” took legal action for the same concerns that I have, and they’ve already settled. Unfortunately, all too often, talent gets kept in the dark.”

Vaughn starred on the show as Kim Parker. She seemingly agrees with Mo’Nique’s claims, as she re-posted Mo’Nique’s lawsuit announcement. Otherwise, she hasn’t commented.
