*HBO has announced a new “Game of Thrones” prequel series based on George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” books.
The series is currently titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” and takes place 90 years prior to the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” — the book series on which GoT is based. The potential new series follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), Variety reports.
Per Variety, the official logline states, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Martin will serve as writer and executive producer on the prequel, according to the report.

The show announcement comes amid reports that HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service will combine to be known simply as Max.
In related news, we reported previously that Kit Harington is set to reprise his Jon Snow role in a “Game of Thrones” spinoff that will take place after the events in the original series.
In the eighth-and-final season of “Game of Thrones,” per THR, “Jon Snow discovered his true name was Aegon Targaryen, a potential heir to the Iron Throne. In the series finale, he was exiled from Westeros and journeyed North of the Wall with the Wildlings to leave his old life behind,” the outlet writes.
Last August, the prequel series “House of the Dragon” debuted on HBO and the cable giant ordered a Season 2 renewal immediately after it launched.
“House of the Dragon” is set 200 years before the events in “Game of Thrones” and recounts “the height of the Targaryen empire in Westeros—specifically, chronicling what happened before and during the Dance of the Dragons, a destructive civil war between the Targaryens as they vied for the Iron Throne,” per Complex.
According to Variety, HBO is also considering a series set during Aegon’s Conquest.
