The On My Block spinoff series, Freeridge, is done after just one season at Netflix.
As Variety reports, Netflix is not moving forward with another season of the show.
The spinoff debuted on Feb. 2 with only eight episodes and followed siblings Gloria and Ines and their friends “who have unleased a curse bringing dark misfortune into their lives,” according to the description.
The series starred Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Bryana Salaz, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Ciara Riley Wilson, Peggy Blow and Zaire Adams. Cast members from On My Block, including Eric Gutierrez, Eme Ikwuakor, Paula Garcés and Raushanah Simmons also starred as their characters from the launchpad series. Freeridge was co-created by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft with On My Block co-executive producer Jamie Dooner and co-producer Jamie Uyeshiro.
Even though Freeridge was canceled, Iungerich is still under an overall deal with the streaming service, which means she could very well bring another project to fans.
Iungerich said of the series before its premiere that Freeridge was meant to give fans a new crew to explore the On My Block World with.
“The new core four of Freeridge don’t step into the shoes of our original [On My Block] crew. They step into their own shoes, right alongside the legacy of the kids who came before them,” Iungerich said to Tudum. “Through the lens of this new group of friends, we’ll see Freeridge as we know it and also explore a Freeridge we haven’t seen before.”
