*Police body cam footage has been released showing an officer with the D.C. Metropolitan Police fatally shooting a Black teenager in a stolen car on March 18.

The footage comes after the U.S. Justice Department announced it would conduct a civil rights investigation of the death of 17-year-old Dalaneo Martin.

In the video, an officer attempts to arrest Martin after waking him up while he is asleep behind the wheel, TMZ reports. With the officer in the back seat, Martin speeds away in a panic while the officer points his gun at the teen.

Martin keeps driving despite the cop’s orders to stop and let him out. The officer warns, “Stop or I’ll shoot you!” before pulling the trigger several times.

Martin is heard crying in agony after being shot. The car then crashes into a house. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Dalaneo Martin tragically died after a shooting involving the U.S. Park Police, and we recognize that the body-worn camera footage just released of his death is extremely upsetting,” The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia said in a statement, Inside Edition reports.

“The loss of a life is always tragic but is especially heartbreaking when it involves a child,” the statement said.

“In coordination with the FBI Washington Field Office, the United States Attorney’s Office has opened a civil rights investigation into the circumstances leading to Mr. Martin’s death. That investigation — which we are committed to conducting diligently and thoroughly — is ongoing,” the department announced.

The officer who shot Martin and a second cop on the scene have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal police investigation, according to TMZ.

Martin’s mother wants the officer who shot her son arrested.

“I need the officer arrested immediately for murder — first-degree murder,” Terra Martin told reporters at a press conference, Inside Edition reports.
