*Keegan Michael-Key and Cecily Strong are back for Season 2 of the acclaimed comedy series “Schmigadoon!” which premieres globally this week on Apple TV+.
The six-episode season, per a press release, features all new original songs, and returning stars Jane Krakowski, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, and Aaron Tveit are set to return, with Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page joining the cast for season two.
Per the Season 2 official synopsis: “Having found true love in the town of Schmigadoon, season two of “Schmigadoon!” will find Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) in Schmicago, the reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals.”
This season finds Josh falsely accused of murder and his ladylove Melissa hires a power attorney (played by Krakowski) to clear his name.

“I think that, because the world in this season is so dark, I think that Josh is very concerned, literally concerned for his life,” Keegan told EUR in our exclusive interview with the series stars ahead of season 2.
“Where I think in the first season it didn’t feel so much that, it was like, we just want to get out of here. But this one, it’s like, “We need to get out of here, or I’m in deep trouble.” And so he relies so much on what his wife can do for him, especially when he’s been imprisoned. So he doesn’t know what to do. And so he’s hoping that Melissa can help him. But it’s very harrowing. It’s very, very harrowing, this go around,” he added.
The former “Key & Peele” star also described the world of “Schmigadoon” this season as “expansive”.
“I think how expansive the world is this time around. And I mean, there’s more sets for us to play on. There’s more costumes for us to change into. In some way, shape or form, more variety in this season. It’s just a bigger, bigger season and there’s just more going on. And I think that’s one of the most exciting things about it. The textures and the darkness and the complexity. It’s a completely different show,” he explained.
SNL’s Lorne Michaels serves as an EP on “Schmigadoon!,” which is co-created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, and produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group and Broadway Video. Paul also serves as showrunner and wrote all of the original songs for the series, per the news release.
“Schmigadoon!” debuts Wednesday, April 5 with the first two episodes, followed by one new episode weekly, every Wednesday through May 3, exclusively on Apple TV+.
