*NFLer Damar Hamlin joined lawmakers and President Biden last week to bring awareness about automated external defibrillators (AEDs) being made available to schools.
Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest during Buffalo’s Jan. 2 game in Cincinnati and survived after receiving immediate CPR and defibrillation, helped introduce the Access the AEDs Act — a bipartisan bill that aims to bring life-saving equipment and training for sudden cardiac arrest to schools.
“Thankfully, the medical team with the Buffalo Bills was prepared and they saved my life,” Hamlin said. “Today we are so humbled and inspired by what I feel is an opportunity that God has given to help and protect young people.”
In addition to extending access to AEDs and increasing CPR training, the bill would enable the creation of cardiac emergency response plans in schools across the country.
