Maryland Family Touting Their Black-Owned Real Estate Co. Goes Viral (Watch)

Wyevetra & Jarriel Jordan Sr., a married entrepreneurial couple, have made history after purchasing Fort Washington Professional Park in Fort Washington, Maryland.

*When the Jordan family in Fort Washington, Maryland became owners of the city’s first Black-owned business park, they wanted to spread the word in hopes of uplifting the area’s Black community. And that they did, thanks to a TikTok video that went viral.

Local CBS affiliate WUSA9 reports that The Home Team Realty Group, owned by Wyevetra and Jarriel Jordan, along with their son, Jarriel Jordan Jr. and daughter, who runs their title company, had their offer refused three times before being able to purchase the land.

“If you want something truly dynamic and truly that’s going to empower the community and yourself you have to put a little skin in the game,” Wyevetra Jordan told WUSA9. “We wanted to be the ones to show folks you can do this you have to be grounded and have a lot of structure to achieve those goals.”

Jordan Jr. decided to detail their journey in a video posted to TikTok. It was reposted by the Instagram account We Buy Black and quickly amassed thousands of likes. Soon, singer Anthony Hamilton, whose music was used in the original video, supported the video on his platform.

“When Anthony Hamilton shared the post that’s when I was like, ‘ok now we’re doing things!’” Jarriel, Jr. said in an interview.

The family plans to continue building their business and community outreach through their program Jacob’s Ladder as well as through empowering their more than 50 new agents and community partners. In the coming months they plan on hosting training sessions, career fairs and a national workshop on homeownership.
