Ryan Coogler might have a role in bringing together a iteration in the The X-Files franchise.
According to a new report from Bloody Disgusting, The X-Files creator Chris Carter told On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko that he might be adding a new chapter to his creation with the help of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever writer/director. As he said, “I just spoke to a young man…Ryan Coogler…who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”
A new X-Files project had been teased since 2020, with the project being an animated version of the series following the agents who investigate the cases too ridiculous for Mulder and Scully, according to what TV Line reported back then. But this sounds like an entirely new project.
If Coogler actually takes on The X-Files, it wouldn’t necessarily be his first foray into the world of science fiction, since Black Panther is now part of Afrofuturist canon. But it would be a surprising diversion still, since Coogler is probably one of the last names people would expect to be attached to The X-Files. However, this could also give Lovecraft Country fans another sci-fi show to root for.
