*Jonathan Majors‘ lawyer has issued a statement about the actor’s arrest for allegedly assaulting a white woman.
The alleged victim is reportedly Majors’ girlfriend. Initial reports claimed she became irate after discovering text messages on his phone from another woman. According to TMZ, she confronted him while peeking at his phone. The woman claims Majors grabbed her hand, slapped her, and choked her. This prompted them to go their separate ways and she reported the incident to the police the next day.
As we reported previously, Majors was booked Saturday morning on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment.
Police are reportedly protecting the girlfriend’s identity by not releasing her name but social media sleuths claim she is a choreographer named Grace Jabbari.

The attorney for the “Creed III” star insists that his client is innocent and expects “all charges will be dropped imminently” in his assault case, PEOPLE reports.
Priya Chaudhry, Majors’ criminal defense lawyer, said in a statement that the movie star is “completely innocent and is probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows.”
“We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently,” Chaudhry stated. “This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.”
The NYPD revealed in a statement to PEOPLE confirming that a “preliminary investigation” determined that Majors was “involved in a domestic dispute” with a 30-year-old female.
“The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident,” NYPD shared. “The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition.”
Chaudhry said in her statement that the “incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday.”
“The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested,” she said. “We expect these charges to be dropped soon.”

On Twitter, users are divided over Majors’ arrest, with some convinced that the actor is innocent while others believe rumors that he is abusive both in his personal and professional life.
One user wrote, “Oh they’re already calling Jonathan Majors the “victim of an altercation” and saying that his girlfriend was having an “emotional crisis”. Everyone say thank you Johnny Depp!”
Another person wrote, “woman was having an emotional crisis” hmm….. so easy to blame it on the woman huh”.
Several people called the lawyer’s response a “cover-up” and the perfect example of the age-old misogynistic “woman was emotional” spin. “Getting strangled by jonathan majors would definitely put one in an emotional crisis,” tweeted one user.
“Leave them white girls alone big dawg or you’re gonna end up on the CW,” tweeted another person.
Meanwhile, Twitter users are convinced that because Majors “touched a white woman” his carer is over. Do you agree? Sound off in the comments.
