Black officers group defends state control of St. Louis police, baffling allies

Under a Republican-sponsored bill, a board consisting of the city’s mayor and four gubernatorial appointees would run the SLMPD. 

The St. Louis police department had been under the management of the state for more than 140 years before it was returned to city control a decade ago. Now, Missouri Republican lawmakers want to take control of the department again — to fight crime, they say — and a  today!
