*You are trying to relax after a tough day and long for great music. Suddenly you remember Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, or any other platform where you can find great music. Surprisingly, you come across a brand new single from Chante Moore, Jill Scott, Phyllis Hyman, Ledisi, or Kenny Lattimore, which you haven’t been aware of. But is it real?
You excitedly click on the song, and to a bigger shock, the piece could be better made, it was possibly made using Al and not close to Phyllis Hyman or Jill Scott’s quality. And there you are, among others, a victim of the latest “fake song” scam on virtual platforms, reports Soul Tracks.
There has been a recent trend of some nefarious characters trying to trick music lovers into listening to fake songs; they claim to belong to our favorite artists. Anytime you listen to the songs for more than 30 seconds, the scams are paid up to $0.003 that Spotify pays for spinning.
Sadly, these scams earn as much as possible for several weeks or months before the real artists notice and file complaints.

While streaming platforms have always had fake songs, the trend has increased recently. The counterfeit songs are characterized by generic covers of mountains or clouds with the popular artist’s name and song title. Besides, they are also copyrighted by unknown organizations such as Ndinaye Eric Music or Pacifiique Ngirinshuti Music, among others.
The trick songs work immensely, with the fake Jill Scott having earned about 10,000 listens on Spotify on the first day – which translates to about $3 in streaming fees for the song on one service daily. While it may not seem like a lot, dozens of fake music listens may result in thousands of dollars of revenue over a short period.
As you are frustrated, like other music lovers on streaming devices, the scams are making lots of money off your back and that of your favorite artist. To avoid such, here are instructions to notify Spotify anytime you come across fake songs to save your famous artist and fellow fans.
