It’s clear there’s division amongst the group members of Xscape. The drama is being played out on the new Bravo limited series Queens of R&B. In the past, it’s been two against two, with sister LaTocha and Tamika Scott on one side, with Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Harris on the other. But now, LaTocha is standing alone, and seemingly isolating herself. Tamika isn’t riding along this time. And in a clip for the upcoming episode, LaTocha meets for a solo deal, without her group members knowing.

Why a solo deal?
In the clip, LaTocha has to pitch herself to the executives. “I’ve been wanting to do this for a very, very long time,” she says. “I just want music that’s relatable, and I want to write. We started in a group where men were writing a lot of the lyrics. And I feel like when we write them, it comes from home. And I want to make sure that I do that.”
As for why she wants a solo deal, she tells the executives, “When you’ve been in a group, it’s very hard to speak your truth because that may not be what another girl is going through. So now it’s time to be able to speak my truth, and say the things that have been on my heart,” she said.
One executive asks her how she’s going to balance her solo career with her work with the group, and she hints that there’s contention amongst the group, and they are unaware that she’s in talks for a solo deal.
History repeats itself
It was later confirmed that LaTocha signed with Motown as a gospel/inspirational artist. The trailer shows that it comes as a surprise to the rest of the group. And it’s reminiscent of why at least Kandi Burruss says they split in 1998.
According to Burruss, LaTocha wanted solo stardom, and set up their third album to prep for her solo album. LaTocha denies such, and her solo career ending up not taking off to the heights she expected.
Eventually, it would be LaTocha and her sister Tamika who begged for the group to reunite. Now after they’ve found success as a group again, she seemingly wants to embark on her own.
