*Several McDonald’s franchise owners are reportedly pushing back against the new Offset and Cardi B celebrity meal.
The meal features a cheeseburger with BBQ sauce and a large Coca-Cola, a quarter-pounder with cheese and a large Hi-C Orange Lavaburst, a large order of French fries and an apple pie, according to the company’s website.
“Let me tell you, McDonald’s is date night done right,” Offset said in a press release. “It doesn’t have to be all boujee. Get your date, grab some good food, and have fun, that’s it.”
The meal was released on Valentine’s Day and some franchise owners have allegedly pointed out that collaborating with Cardi B and Offset is a bad look for the fast-food chain, the Wall Street Journal reports.
It remains unclear the exact number of franchises that have criticized the promotion but these owners reportedly believe that the hip-hop couple doesn’t align with the McDonald’s brand.
In a statement, McDonald’s US chief marketing officer Tariq Hassan told Insider that “Cardi and Offset are an iconic couple who have their own date-night tradition at McDonald’s that goes back years. We’re proud to share a little piece of that with customers across the US with our latest campaign, which is about love and celebrating the special moments we all share over McDonald’s.”

Hassan said celebrity meal deals aim to put “McDonald’s at the center of culture.”
“Across our marketing, we’re focused on putting McDonald’s at the center of culture,” he said. “Artist collabs have helped reignite fans’ love for our food and fueled significant business momentum, both for the company and our restaurant owner/operators.”
According to Insider, some of the complaints over the Cardi and Offset meal are from franchises in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic US.
