The announcement follows news that Perry has tapped a star-studded lineup for “Six Triple Eight,” another Netflix title he’s helming as part of the movie mogul’s multi-year deal with the streaming giant.
“Six Triple Eight” features Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Sarah Jeffery, and Jay Reeves.
The project reunites Perry and Washington, as she starred in his 2013 film, “Peeples.” According to Shadow and Act, the cast also includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Pepi Sonuga, Jeanté Godlock, Moriah Brown, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Gregg Sulkin with Dean Norris and Sam Waterston.
The feature film is reportedly based on an article by Kevin M. Hymel published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media. Perry’s story centers on an all-Black, all-Female Batallion during the war.
“Six Triple Eight” marks the first time Perry and Winfrey have collaborated on a project with the former talk show host in a starring role.
“Mea Culpa” will mark Perry’s fifth Netflix feature following “Six Triple Eight,” “A Fall From Grace,” “A Madea Homecoming” and “A Jazzman’s Blues.”
