*Netflix is expanding the world of “Bridgerton” with a new series about a young queen’s rise to power.
The six-episode limited series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story“ is set to premiere in May, hailing from creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
As Urban Hollywood 411 reports, here is the official description of the new series: “Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”
The prequel stars India Amarteifio (Line of Duty and Sex Education) as Young Queen Charlotte and Corey Mylchreest (The Sandman) plays Young King George.

The cast also includes Arsema Thomas as young Lady Danbury, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley, per the report.
Additionally, “Bridgerton” fans will be thrilled to know that Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury), and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) reprise their roles from the beloved series.
“I want people to feel like this is what happens with real love. Love is hard. Love is difficult. Love has many layers,” Rhimes said in a statement about the upcoming new series. “The idea that the happy ending that we always talk about for characters doesn’t have to be the obvious one.”
“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” debuts May 4 on Netflix.
