*The mayor of New Orleans is under fire after a video shows her giving the middle finger toward a passing float during a parade.

The 13-second footage shows Mayor LaToya Cantrell initially saying “I love you” and waving at someone at the Krewe of Tucks parade on Saturday. But then her hand gestures with her middle finger. It remains unclear what prompted the mayor’s obscene reaction.

According to NOLA.com, the video was first published on the Facebook Page “NOLA A.F.” without any context.

Gregory Joseph, the mayor’s office’s communications director, issued the following statement in response to the clip: “Mardi Gras is a time for satire and jest, all in good fun. The City has been enjoying a safe and healthy Carnival and is looking forward [to] continuing the celebration on Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras.”

Meanwhile, there’s an organization seeking to recall Cantrell from her position amid scrutiny during her second term as mayor, WWLTV reports.

Eileen Carter, the founder of NOLATOYA.org, said the organization has secured more than 49,000 signatures on its petition for a recall election. Watch the video report below:
