Viola Davis Achieves EGOT Status With 2023 Grammy Win – Shadow and Act

Viola Davis is officially an EGOT winner!

The Woman King star won the Grammy for Best Audiobook Narration and Storytelling Recording, for the narration of her book, Finding Me.

She won two Tony Awards, one for her 2001 role in King Hedley II and in 2010 for her role in Fences. She reprised the same role for Denzel Washington’s 2016 adaptation of Fences, earning her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Davis’ Emmy came in 2015 when she won for Oustanding Lead Actress for her role in How to Get Away with Murder.

She joins an esteemed group of EGOT recipients, including Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson and Whoopi Goldberg.

In her acceptance speech, Davis said, “Oh my God. I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola. To honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. It has just been such a journey. I just EGOT! Thank you, Harper Collins, Lavaille Lavette, you epitomize sister friend. And really, to everybody who was part of my story. And the best chapter yet, my loves: Julius, Genesis. You are my life, My joy. you are the best chapter in this book. Thank you.”

The full Grammys ceremony airs Sunday night at 8 p.m. on CBS.
