‘Lovecraft Country’ And ‘Underground’ Duo Jurnee Smollett And Misha Green To Reteam On Green’s Directorial Debut ‘Sunflower’ – Shadow and Act

Misha Green and Jurnee Smollett are working together once again for Green’s upcoming directorial debut, Sunflower.

Deadline reports that Green has written the thriller, which will follow two women who “struggle to escape from a deranged college professor who holds them hostage on a remote sunflower farm.”

Smollett will star with Craig J. Flores producing via his production company, Bread and Circuses Entertainment. The film is set to start filming this summer for Lionsgate, with Meredith Wieck and Aaron Edmonds overseeing for the studio.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane released a statement about the upcoming film, saying how excited the studio is to work with Green and Smollett.

“Everyone at our studio was completely drawn in by the way Misha, Jurnee, and the Lovecraft Country team worked so confidently to create a compelling genre series–then subverted the genre and reinvented it through a new lens,” Kahane said. “That’s the opportunity with Sunflower. The screenplay is unique, thrilling and flat-out scary. It’s going to make a hell of a movie.”

Green also released a statement about creating Sunflower and her feelings around making her first movie.

“Sunflower was the first script I sold when I landed in Hollywood, and now having the opportunity to make it my first feature directorial outing feels like kismet,” she said. “I couldn’t have hoped for better partners and collaborators than Nathan, the Lionsgate team, Craig, and Jurnee to help me shepherd it to the big screen.”

The two began working together on the WGN America series Underground, and later on HBO’s Lovecraft Country.
