A spike in racist slurs and a coordinated campaign to spread anti-Semitic memes—that’s exactly how chaotic Elon Musk’s Twitter became after he took over the social media platform on October 27th. There was an influx of hate speech spewed all over Twitter, and it was disgusting.

 

 

Now, there’s fear Elon will allow Twitter to fall into a black hole of toxicity and hate speech, especially after he fired the company’s leadership team and dissolved the company’s board, naming himself sole director.

As trolls and racists littered the blue bird app with hate speech, Elon pledged unrestricted free speech on Twitter, but he’s no longer honoring that. The rules have seemingly changed.

Apparently, Elon doesn’t like when the jokes are on him. The new Twitter owner suspended comedienne Kathy Griffin’s Twitter account for impersonating him. In his feelings, much?

The 62-year-old comedienne changed her profile picture and her account’s name to “Elon MusK” before she mocked the Tesla founder.

It didn’t take long before Elon announced Kathy’s suspension, sharing Twitter’s NEW rules: accounts that impersonate celebrities and other notable figures would be suspended, unless they’re labeled “parody.”

”Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended,” Elon tweeted. “Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning,” he tweeted about Twitter Blue subscription. “This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue,” he said, adding in one other follow-up: “Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark.”

He then poked fun at her suspension:

 

 

Well, Kathy took it a step further and logged into her late mother’s Twitter account. Kathy’s mom, Maggie Griffin, died in March 2020. Before her death, she starred alongside her daughter on “My Life on the D-List” for six seasons, and she also appeared opposite her daughter in projects such as “Kathy” and “Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story.”

Kathey logged into her late mother’s Twitter account after her suspension, where she tweeted, “#FreeKathy.”

 

 

Then, she began to troll Elon from her late mother’s account:

 

 

”Elon, this is Maggie contacting you from the spirit world tell u…you’re a douchebag,” Kathy tweeted. “This is not parody. This is the actual ghost of Kathy Griffin’s boxed wine loving mother saying I’m gonna get tipsy & throw my bingo cards at you! NOT A PARODY. To the moon, a**hole. #FreeKathy”

 

 

 

 

She later clarified that she was using her mom’s account, stating her mother would be behind her 100% on this and wouldn’t mind:

 

 

”Oh by the way this is KG. I’m tweeting from my dead mother’s account,” she said in another tweet.

 

“The View” co-host Whoppi Goldberg announced she’s bouncing off Twitter for now, however, she left it open to returning if some things change:

Comedian Sarah Silverman used her verified account to troll Elon as well.

 

Sarah copied his profile picture, cover image and name. The only thing distinguishing a tweet coming from her account was the @SarahKSilverman handle. Eventually, her account was locked.

Singer Toni Braxton and TV screenwriter Shonda Rhimes have also departed the blue bird app.

Elon later tweeted, “My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk.”

 

Sir, please. Just stop with the hypocrisy.

Elon Musk has reportedly delayed his new $8/month “blue check” Twitter verification plan until after the midterm elections. The paid Twitter Blue subscription plan will allow users who pay a monthly subscription fee to get a blue checkmark on their profiles. The new Twitter owner proposed the new “blue check” plan as a way to fight spam on the platform.
