Drake, Kanye West lead nominees for BET Hip-Hop Awards

The 17th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards will be taped on Saturday, Sept. 30, and aired on BET on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

BET announced the nominees for the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards on Monday. Drake leads the pack with 14 nominations, while Kanye West is next with 10.

The 17th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards will celebrate the exceptional achievements in rap and hip-hop from the previous year. Drake’s record number of nominations stems from his 2021 release, “Certified Lover Boy,” which is up for Hip-Hop Album of the Year.

Drake is also nominated for Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year and Hustler of the Year. He’s nominated multiple times in four categories: Song of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Collaboration and Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse.

West’s 2021 album, “Donda,” helped him garner his nominations, going up against Drake in many categories, including Hip-Hop Album of the Year, as well as Best Live Performer, Hustler of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse and Hip-Hop Artist of the Year. West is also a nominee in the Producer of the Year category.

Other notable acts with multiple nominations include Kendrick Lamar with nine, Future with eight and Cardi B, Baby Keem and J. Cole, who have six each.

The BET Hip-Hop Awards, hosted by rapper Fat Joe, will be taped on Friday, Sept. 30 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. The ceremony will air on BET on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. EST.
