The cast of “P-Valley” jetted to NYC to help kick off the fourth season of the “Tamron Hall Show.” During his first ever daytime appearance, J. Alphonse Nicholson fought back tears while discussing his character Lil Murda, who became a fan favorite. Watch his emotional interview and more inside….
Season 2 of “P-Valley” was THEE series to watch over the summer. Still riding high off of its success, the cast of “P-Valley,” including J. Alphonse Nicholson, Nicco Annan, Shannon Thornton and Gail Bean, made their way to NYC to kick off the fourth series of the “Tamron Hall Show.”
The show’s breakout star J. Alphonse Nicholson made a huge splash on the acting scene with his portrayal of Lil Murda, which has already earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination. Listen, he killed it – BOTH seasons. All of the love and support is something J. Alphonse is still getting used to. And the EMMY talk really gets to him.
”Don’t make me cry,” he said with tears in eyes as the audience applauded him. “Such an honor to be back here in New York and It’s such an honor to be able to bring such a complex story to the table and to be a representation for any and everyone. I call Lil Murda the every man. I’m just crying because the love is overwhelming. And being able to bring Katori’s story to life, and represent a black woman, I’m grateful for it.”
“I’m just blessed to be here. This experience, the love that people show you is overwhelming,” he continued.
Although he has received tons of support, he has also been criticized just as much, especially being a heterosexual male that’s married. Even though some folks don’t agree with it, he said he’s glad he’s glad “that these sex scenes have started those conversations.”

Gail Bean shared how she auditioned for “P-Valley,” but didn’t get the role she auditioned for. However, the show’s creator, Katori Hall, created a character with her in mind and that’s how Roulette – one of The PYNK’s newest hires – came about.
Shannon Thornton – who plays Keyshawn/Miss Mississippi – also talked about how grateful she was for Katori to trust her playing this character and how Keyshawn represents so many women.

During the show, Tamron shared “P-Valley” was the inspiration behind her new blonde hairstyle after being “obsessed” with the critically acclaimed show all summer.
