Dave Chappelle made a surprise appearance to open up for Chris Rock and Kevin Hart’s comedy show at Madison Square Garden. Rap icon Jay-Z was in the mix as well. See the flicks and get the deets on what Chappelle said onstage following his drama in Minnesota inside…

Controversial comedian Dave Chapelle made an unannounced appearance to open up for Chris Rock and Kevin Hart’s sold-out comedy show at Madison Square Garden over the weekend.

Hitting the stage with a cigarette in his hand, “The Closer” comedian joked about his recent venue drama in Minneapolis. The 48-year-old comedian was tapped to hit the stage at First Avenue, but the venue canceled his performance following heated protests outside of the venue and online in response to “transphobic jokes” Dave previously made. His show was moved 10 minutes away to another venue.

“Had to sneak my way in here,” he said when he hit the stage, addressing the backlash he received in Minneapolis. “Despite what you may have read about in the news, I’m okay. I appreciate the support.”

He referenced the criticism he’s received since his Netflix special, The Closer, and he “gets it” but then added, “I already spent the money.”

During his surprise opening set, he joked about being attacked by an audience member with a weapon while onstage performing at the Hollywood Bowl back in May. He joked that if his bodyguards weren’t wearing “dress shoes on the job” then they would have been able to make sure he was safe instead of “sliding all over the place like at a bowling alley.”

The controversial comedian joked that he hope his attacker catches monkeypox and he also went in on the New York Post. THR reports:

He kvetched that Chris Rock was able to get the first joke in after the scuffle that night (“was that Will Smith?”) and then admitted his follow-up gag (“that was a trans man”) didn’t merely bomb, it “set up another two-day news cycle.”

His real fury came at the press, particularly the New York Post, for calling the attack “alleged” when the incident was captured on video. He also accused the paper of putting words in the man’s mouth, urging the man to say he was triggered by Chappelle’s material. The comic claimed he knew the lines were fed, because he spoke to the man backstage for himself and “all he could say was”—at which point Chappelle made “cuckoo” noises.

He added that he hoped his attacker gets monkeypox in jail—“not that he should die, but his ass should itch for four to six weeks.” Chappelle also claimed the first call he got that night was from Louis C.K., whom he later shouted out, saying, “Louis, even if you get in trouble in the streets, you are my friend.”

After his surprise set, Chris Rock came out to perform and then Kevin Hart the stage.

After their performances, all three comedians commanded the stage where they cracked jokes on one another. Kevin told Chris he had a gift for him and then presented him with a GOAT wearing gold chains.

“I’m not taking care of that sh*t!” Chris shouted. HA!

“This is the worst night of this goat’s life,” Chappelle said.

“He’s just happy he’s not at a Jamaican restaurant!,” Chris responded.

The goat had an accident on stage, so Dave put a microphone to the goat’s mouth and asked, “How’s your first night in show business?” Obviously, the goat didn’t say anything, so Chappelle then asked, “What are we gonna call him?”

That’s when the infamous Oscars slap reference came in.

“Will Smith!” Kevin responded.

Oop.

As we told you earlier, Hip Hop mogul Jay-Z was also in the mix:
