The latest episode of “P-Valley” has sparked homophobic outage as many have spoken out, declaring the episode was “too much.” The two queer sex scenes were more than some could handle. Find out what “P-Valley” star J. Alphonse Nicholson (who plays Lil Murda) has to say about the response inside…
It doesn’t get more raw, uncut and uncensored at The PYNK than this.
The latest episode of “P-Valley” went there… ALL the way there with not one, but two queer sex scenes. However, the male-on-male sex scene is being discussed the most as folks are still unpacking what they saw.
In Sunday’s episode of the hit STARZ series, titled “Demethrius,” we see Big Teak (played by John Clarence Stewart) get triggered by the police brutality incidents and then he totally loses it on Miss Mississippi’s white friend Gidget. After yelling and breaking a table, Lil Murda (played by J. Alphonse Nicholson) was able to calm him down and console him before things began to heat up between the two. Lil Murda softly kissed Big Teak on the forehead before they had sex in a motel room.

Needless to say, social media had PLENTY to say about the gay sex scene. Some were outraged while others loved it:
Oh so it was okay to watch @PValleySTARZ when Uncle Clifford was walking around with hair, nails, makeup, and heels; but now that the gay men are starting to look like y’all homeboys/baby-daddies it’s hard to watch huh? #PValley

Neither of these actors are gay in real life but play gay characters on screen. P valley reallly went there last night! It was debatable, if having gay sex scenes in movies make an actor gay? #PValley #PValleyStarz pic.twitter.com/mZhVG1vI1g

lil murda and big teak scene felt so raw. It gave me the same breathtaking feeling I got when I watched moonlight. We need more black gay representation on tv. Please give them both a Emmy nomination just for that scene alone. #pvalley

I can watch gay people all day but i don’t wanna see them fuck. And that’s not homophonic cuz i feel the same way about my momma. I can watch my momma but i don’t wanna see her FUCK!!!! Do y’all get it?

— lil duval (@lilduval) June 29, 2022
And no the lesbian ain’t bother me cuz I’m use to it. That what y’all missing. It’s about what you’re USE TO! you’re always gon be shocked at something you’re not use to. That’s human nature. U can’t just throw something on somebody and be offended cuz they shocked

Any gay person that don’t get that logic don’t wanna get it and got a bigger agenda than trying to bring us to together thru understanding each other

In response to the homophobic outrage, J. Alphonse Nicholson took to Twitter to respond.
”The love is real the hate is real,” J wrote. “As an actor the ultimate goal is to be as believable as possible. Relax, precise, fierce. Although @PValleySTARZ is a fictional story I’m grateful for the real conversations that are being had. Job well done. #PValleyStarz #LILMURDA #steadygrind”
While he portrays a gay man on television, J. Alphonse Nicholson identifies as a straight man and is married to a woman, Nafeesa Nicholson, in real life.
That wasn’t the only queer sex scene in the episode. However, the female-on-female action isn’t being talked about nearly as much.

Head stripper Mercedes (played by Brandee Evans) gets a text from Coach to come over for their weekly, contractual sex session. When she arrives, his wife Farrah (played by Shamika Cotton) lets her know Coach isn’t home and before you know it, they were having sex again – sans Coach this time.
Both Brandee and J. Alphonse recently spoke to PopSugar about the sex scenes, sharing they were hella nervous at first.
“When I first got those scenes, I was scared to death because I’ve never done anything like this on camera,” Brandee shared. “I had my first [girl] kiss with ‘P-Valley,’ my first sex scene with ‘P-Valley’ – honey, ‘P-Valley’ done popped my cherry,” she joked. “I was literally afraid [of this scene], but I wanted it to be authentic. I did a lot of research – my best friend and I started watching ‘The L Word,’ and I was studying all the things that are authentic because that’s a show to me that I feel really gets it right. And I wanted to get it right, too.”

“I said, “Wow, we’re going there and people are going to see myself as an actor, but also the character, Lil Murda, in a way that they’ve never seen me before,” said J Alphonse.
“Standing ovation to J. Alphonse . . . he taps into that character so beautifully,” Brandee said about her co-star. “Alphonse always says that his job is to tell the story truthfully and respectfully, so I love that he’s not afraid. When I tell you, he gets so much flack [for it], sometimes people feel like he goes too far. But that’s not fair, to me, because he’s not going far — he’s going there, which is the truth of it. He’s showing what is truly happening . . . Some people might want to close their eyes to it, but nothing’s going away, so hopefully this world will allow some people to open up their eyes and see that love is love.”
In an interview with Vulture, J. Alphonse opened up about groundbreaking television scene
“There’s so many layers to it,” he said. “I think Lil Murda is in love with Uncle Clifford, and he wants to continue to find himself with her and explore that relationship. But he also realizes the friendship and the brotherhood that he has with Teak and knows the relief that Teak needs and then also probably the relief that Lil Murda needs for himself. You know, there might have been some selfish reasons in there, but at the same time, I think it was very selfless to come in and comfort his friend and comfort his ex-lover, his once-companion. I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything on TV like that before.”
He continued, “Sex scenes are just uncomfortable — it doesn’t matter what your sexual preference is or who you like or what you like, it’s just uncomfortable because there are so many people in the room and lights and cameras and all these things. But we knew we had a job to do. I got a real feeling that we both understood that we were gonna make history. We both felt what that energy was gonna be and locked in and got it done.”
