Bill Cosby has been found liable in a civil case brought against him by Judy Huth, a woman who claimed the embattled comedian sexually assaulted her as a teenager in the 1970s. More inside….
Although Bill Coby was released from prison after his criminal conviction was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the embattled comedian is still tied up in the judicial system.
According to reports, a jury – comprised of 8 women & 4 men – found Bill Cosby liable in a civil suit filed by Judy Huth, who claims he sexually assaulted her as a teenager inside the Playboy Mansion back in 1975.
The jury awarded Judy $500,000 in damages. No punitive compensation was awarded.
Since the jury didn’t award any punitive damages it likely saved Cosby millions. And he’s thankful for it.
Cosby’s rep Andrew Wyatt told TMZ he called the 84-year-old comedian directly after the judgment was read, and when he told Cosby he had to pay $500K, he responded, “What? That’s all?” followed up with a “Booyah!”
Chile…
And get this, its reported Cosby was able to get on the phone with two jurors who had sided with him, thanking both women for being on the right side of equal rights and social justice. Whet?!
Attorney Gloria Allred, Judy’s attorney told TMZ, “Today our client, Judy Huth, won real change because she fought Bill Cosby one step at a time over seven and a half years, and she proved with the jury’s verdict that Mr. Cosby did sexually assault her when she was a minor, and that he should be held accountable for what he did to her. We are proud of Ms. Huth and our victory against Bill Cosby.”
The embattled comedian did not attend the trial, however, a depiction he did in 2015 was played for the jury where he denied the sexual assault allegations. He also said he didn’t even remember meeting Judy. To counter that statement, Judy’s lawyers showed the jury a photo of Cosby and the teenager at the Playboy Mansion:
Judy Huth was 16-years-old when she and her 17-year-old friend met Cosby on the set of a film in a park. After a conversation, she said Cosby invited them to accompany him to the Playboy mansion a few days later. She testified she was in a bedroom at the mansion with Cosby when he attempted to put his hand down her pants. She said she lied to Cosby about being on her cycle to get him to stop. She claims he then exposed himself and forced her hand on his erect penis and used it to masturbate until he climaxed.
Judy Huth first filed the case in 2014 with accusations of sexual battery and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. The original filing stated the incident happened in 1974 when Huth was 15-years-old, but the timeline was later revised to 1975, when Huth was 16. That revision has caused folks to believe she’s lying since the storyline changed.
As for why Judy waited until 2014 to file the lawsuit, she claimed the alleged assault resulted in anxiety attacks and flashbacks, which started beginning in 2014. The attacks lasted until 2018 when Cosby was sent to prison after being convicted in a separate criminal sexual assault case involving Andrea Constand.
Cosby was released from prison in June 2021.
