Lil Nas X teased a diss track aimed at BET since he was snubbed from the 2022 BET Awards nominations. The network has responded, letting LNX know they have nothing to do with who is selected to be nominated, so his anger is misdirected. Get the latest inside…
The 2022 BET Awards nominees were announced this week and Lil Nas X didn’t make the cut!
After learning he wasn’t nominated for any awards this year, the Grammy winning artist hit up social media to release a teaser to a new track. And it sounds like it’s a diss track (it least the intro) aimed at BET.
”F*** BET! Yeah. F*** BET!,” the song begins.

“Thank you, BET Awards. An outstanding zero nominations again…Black Excellence,” the “Industry Baby” artist tweeted sarcastically before deleting. He added, “I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”
The 23-year-old artist then went into a venting session, noting his frustrations were deeper than just winning an award. He called out homophobia as being prevalent in the Black community.
“this not over no BET award,” he tweeted. “this is about the bigger problem of homophobia in the black community, y’all can sit and pretend all u want but imma risk it all for us.”

In response to a fan who noted he already won a Grammy award, he said, “this is my point exactly how can i get acknowledged by the most acclaimed award show in the world and then not even just 1 nomination from my own people? is that not crazy? am i really tripping.”

”funny thing is industry baby was the biggest song me & jack released last year in the eligibility period but only one of us got a nomination,” he said.
BET heard LNX loud and clear, so they responded. The network reminded him that no one at the network serves as a member of the BET Awards Voting Academy and that the nominees are solely picked based on how many votes each artist receives.
”We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a Best New Artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice: he performed “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus at “BET Awards” 2019 and his “BET Awards” 2021 performance was a highlight of our show. No one cheered louder that night than BET.”
”Unfortunately, this year, he was not nominated by BET’s Voting Academy, which is comprised of an esteemed group of nearly 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, influencers, and creative arts. No one from BET serves as a member of the Voting Academy.”
”At BET, we are passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community. We are committed to using all of our platforms to provide visibility and inclusion for all of the many intersections of the Black community.”
Last year, Lil Nas X was not nominated for any awards. However, he was invited to perform his single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” during the 2021 BET Awards ceremony, which went viral after he kissed his male dancer. He was nominated for Best New Artist in 2020, and in 2019, he hit the stage with Billy Ray Cyrus to perform “Old Town Road”.
TMZ photogs ran into Queen Latifah and she was asked what she thought about LNX being snubbed by BET.
“Lil Nas X is amazing. He should’ve been nominated,” she said. While she felt he should have been nominated, she does not think his sexuality had anything to do with it. “I don’t know if that’s the case. I don’t know what’s behind all that, but inclusion is always the key. That’s what we should be striving for. There’s enough room in this world for everybody.”
