The book shares stories of poverty, racism, sexism and police brutality from girls in New Jersey, North Carolina and New York.
Sixteen girls share stories of poverty, racism, sexism, police brutality, and more in a new book, Speak, Young Brown People, Speak. We Are Listening!
The book was independently published by Alberta Lampkins of A.L. Savvy Publications in North Carolina. She issued a national call in 2020 seeking essays, poems, art submissions, and affirmations from young women. Lampkins published 10 submissions from girls who were part of a program in Camden, New Jersey, called Women of the Dream. The six other submissions came from girls in North Carolina and New York.
”They spoke boldly. I was really just blown away,” Lampkins told today!
