- Shahidi also follows her television mother’s footsteps in becoming a brand ambassador. Just last month, Tiffany & Co. announced they selected Tracee Ellis-Ross to advertise their Tiffany T1 “Give Me the T” campaign because of her “own fierce brand of individuality.”
- Shadidi has emphasized her admiration for Dior various times; in March, she uploaded a video on Instagram in which she wore a casual Dior suit. Shahidi also donned a Dior Haute Couture outfit to the Critics’ Choice Awards.
- Alongside this, Shahidi worked with the fashion titan for International Women’s Day. The 21-year-old participated in their Dior Stands with Women initiative; as part of this initiative, she discussed why she advocates for women’s rights in a video. Shahidi states that not many people give women space or time to “be heard consistently.”
- She further mentioned that there are many times where women, especially those of color, are seen as aggressive when trying to defend themselves. Despite this, she knows it is important to remind herself and others that no one should feel ashamed for being assertive, driven, or committed.
- Under the leadership of creative director Chiuri, Dior has become more vocal about women’s empowerment and activism, which makes Shahidi compatible with the brand. She founded organizations such as Eighteen x 18, which encouraged youths to vote in the 2018 Midterm Election. Additionally, she partnered with the Young Women’s Leadership Network (YWLN) of New York to create Yara’s Club to provide online mentorship as a way to end poverty via education.
Shahidi additionally intends on obtaining an education to expand her activism. She currently attends Harvard University, where she is double-majoring in Social Studies and African American Studies.
