Christina Aguilera called her childhood friend’s situation “the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.”
What We Know:
- The pop singer shared her feelings in a series of tweets. Aguilera began her Twitter thread by sharing a photo of Britney Spears and herself as children on the Mickey Mouse Club; in her post, she stated that Spears should have control over her own life.
These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through.
It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish. pic.twitter.com/NRhNwcJaD3

- Aguilera proceeded to state that Spears should not feel ignored or bullied by those closest to her. She also declared that that experience could seriously damage one’s spirit. Aguilera wrote to her followers that she truly believes those around Spears refuse to show her any compassion or decency.
- “To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most. I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world,” wrote Aguilera.
- The two singers first met when they became Mousketeers for the Mickey Mouse Club in 1993. This helped the two become household names and opened doors for their singing careers. Spears and Aguilera went on to make a lasting impact in pop music in the late 90s and early 2000s, respectively.
- Last week, Spears appeared in an online court session and provided testimony on her conservatorship. In her speech, she declares she has been traumatized because of it. She told Judge Brenda Penny that her conservators would not allow her to get married or have more children. In addition, she mentioned that her father, Jamie Spears, overworked and over-medicated her; Britney said her management abused her mental state as well. Britney further told Judge Penny she just wanted her life back.
The State of California placed Britney under this custodianship in 2008 after she suffered from a severe mental breakdown.
