Isaacson, who wrote Steve Jobs’ biography, will make a final decision on whether he will pursue the project soon.
What We Know:
- Isaacson has not spoken much to Musk; recently, the two chatted via telephone, and Isaacson intends on holding more conversations during the summer if he goes through with the book.
- According to Fox News, Isaacson’s driving force for writing the biography comes from Jobs and Musk’s similarities. He thinks Musk holds the same ambition, drive, and willingness to take risks as Jobs.
“In some ways, he’s the Steve Jobs of our time, he’s crazy enough to think he can change the world and thus he might be one of the ones who do change the world,” Isaacson said in a Yahoo! Finance interview.
- Isaacson spent two years writing Steve Jobs. During that time, he conducted more than 40 interviews with Apple’s founder. Sources familiar with the project believe he might take a similar approach with Musk.
- Two sources told Fox News that although Musk may want someone of Isaacson’s stature to write a biography on him, it is unclear if he will work with him just yet; previously, Musk collaborated with other biographical writers to narrate his life story. In February, Musk tweeted he would begin writing a book on Tesla and SpaceX.

- Additionally, Isaacson has not alerted his officials. People close to the writer state that Isaacson still needs to write a proposal on the book and inform his publisher, Simon & Schuster, about the possibility. These sources believe he will do so once he makes his choice this summer. The same sources also believe he has not told his supervisors just yet because he may change his mind at any moment.
Isaacson has written biographical works on other significant figures such as Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, and Henry Kissinger.
