Atlanta Mother Is Arrested After Her Daughter Is Denied Her Diploma From Drew Charter School – Over Her Shoes

An argument about the school’s policy against wearing open-toe shoes left a mother facing charges after she struck a school administrator.

What We Know:

  • Danielle Alleyne was one of many parents who didn’t see their children graduate. School officials say several students wore shoes that were not in compliance with the school’s dress code. The Atlanta Public Schools Police Department sent an officer to Drew Charter on May 22nd around 8:45 p.m. The facility manager of the school greeted the officer and informed them of the incident.
  • The officer found the mother cursing at the school’s principal dressed in all-black. They attempted to calm her down, but she continued yelling, “Drew is a racist school.” The officer asked if the mother got physical, and she replied, “I would never do that.” Staff members told officers that the parent pushed an administrator in the head, but she had already left.
  • The administrator who was pushed says they were pushed twice. They declined medical attention but did get escorted home. The officer reviewed video footage which showed the mother did strike an administrator twice. The officer then secured a warrant for battery against Danielle Alleyne.
  • Parents talked to WSV-TV and criticized the policy against wearing open-toed shoes. They mention the students had a tough year, and the school should’ve cut them some slack. School officials reiterated to the local news that they’ve made it clear this would happen if they didn’t follow the rules.

It is unclear if Danielle Alleyne has been arrested yet.
