Family and friends are searching for answers after a university student mysteriously disappeared three weeks ago.
What We Know:
- According to NBC News, Marquez Duncan Jr. was last seen by friends at his home in Tuskegee, Alabama, on the night of Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021. The 22-year-old Tuskegee University student has gone an unusual amount of time without any digital or in-person communication with his mother, father, or friends.
- “We talk every other day, if not every day,” his mother Tateshia Stevens Duncan told Dateline. “And we video chat so I can see his face. He would never go this long without talking to anyone… WE never go this long without talking to each other.” The two are in constant communication since Tateshia lives in Michigan. Tateshia also said her son’s disappearance had raised a lot of red flags. She notes that her son’s cell phone was also missing from his off-campus residence, but the rest of his items remained.
“Why would he leave without his wallet?” Tateshia pointed out. “And he never went anywhere without his sunglasses and his jewelry. All of his stuff was left at the apartment. It just doesn’t make sense.”
- Marquez, who is a native of Georgia, moved to Alabama to study chemical engineering at Tuskegee University. Although his family was under the impression that Marquez was still in school, they recently discovered he was no longer enrolled. The timeline or reason behind his un-enrollment has not been released. Tuskegee University officials confirmed Marquez was missing, indicating that he was a student at one time.
- Last week, Central Alabama Crime Stoppers put up a $1,000 reward for anyone to come forward with information on Marquez’s whereabouts. Marquez, who also goes by ‘Quez,’ is described as a six-foot-tall Black male weighing roughly 185lbs. He was last seen wearing a t-shirt and black gym shorts.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Tuskegee Police Department at 334-727-0200 or Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP or toll-free at 1-833-AL1-STOP.
