What We Know:

  • Five Oklahoma City police officers were charged on Wednesday with first-degree manslaughter in last November’s fatal shooting of 15-year-old Stavian Rodriguez.
  • The officers charged are Bethany Sears, Jared Berton, Corey Adams, John Skuta, and Brad Pemberton. FoxNews reported, “A sixth officer, Sarah Carli, used a less-lethal weapon and will not be charged, police say.” The officers were responding to reports of an attempted armed robbery at the convenience store on November 23. The officer’s bodycam footage has been released by ABC7News
  • Reports state Rodriguez was fidgeting with something in his pocket. “A cellphone was recovered from the left rear pocket he had his hand in at the time he got shot,” as reported in an interview with NBCNews. Police also say Stavian was armed, but he cooperated with the officer’s commands to drop the gun.
  • There is currently no video showing what happened before Rodriguez was shot. An autopsy determined Rodriguez suffered 13 gunshot wounds, Foxnews reported.

If convicted, these officers could face up to life in prison.
