FBI Report Finds White Supremacists ‘Seek Affiliation’ with Law Enforcement

According to the report, white supremacy groups want to “develop new tactics”.

What We Know:

  • The information comes from investigations done between 2016 and 2020. Agents and analysts from San Antonio’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) division found that white supremacists and other right-wing extremists would “very likely seek affiliation with military and law enforcement entities in furtherance of” their beliefs. The report, which was published last month, claimed that these groups would attempt to join the military or police force to commit acts of violence towards minorities.
  • The document was sent to law enforcement agencies in Texas and other parts of the country. The report focused on supremacy groups that were inspired by the publication “Siege” whose printing tends to spread Neo-Nazi propaganda. The FBI’s statement also mentioned that FBI San Antonio believes racially motivated extremists, who enter military and law enforcement careers, will gain access to non-public tradecraft and information. This will permit them to enhance operational security and create new tactics in and around San Antonio.
  • According to Yahoo!, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee last month and mentioned that domestic terrorism has more than doubled in the past four years and he does not predict it will be relieved any time soon. In the same period, the number of white supremacist arrests has tripled. Critics of the FBI believe the document is proof that the nation’s top law enforcement agency is in no rush to deal with the issue of extremists infiltrating the military and police departments.
  • Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said that other FBI officials investigated by Congress claimed there was “no evidence that racist infiltration was a problem” in law enforcement entities. This has led Raskin to believe the FBI has failed the American citizens, citing the events of January 6.

Jamie Raskin also said Congress will continue pressuring the FBI to release more information on its plans to counteract the increasing number of extremists entering military and law enforcement agencies.
