Meghan revealing the tactics of being British Royalty drove her to mental health struggles and accused the Royal Family of racism.
What We Know:
- Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, revealed a few shocking details in an interview with Oprah. Meghan announces she was suicidal when she was five months pregnant with baby Archie, and Kate Middleton made her cry. The Royals refused to make baby Archie a prince because they were worried about how dark his skin complexion would be.
- In the Oprah interview, she states that the royal family did not want baby Archie to have the title Prince. Meghan further explained that baby Archie is the first baby of color not given a title in the same way as all other kids. It is not their right to take it away, and when you are a baby of the Monarch, you automatically get the safety and protection of being known as the Prince or princess. There have been several conversations Meghan said that Harry has had with his family regarding Archie’s complexion when he is born and what that would mean and look like for the Royal family.
- Meghan stated that she had a clear, real, and frightening thought about suicide while she was a working member of the royal family. She asked to get help because she has never felt this feeling before, but the institution said no because it would look bad on the family. Harry later said she did not receive any support from the royal family over her mental health saying, it was not a conversation.
- Later on in the interview, Harry explained that his experience with Meghan showed him how hard it must have been for his mother. When Meghan said she felt trapped, she compared her experience to Ariel from The Little Mermaid.

- CBS News reported that BBC News royal correspondent Jonny Dymond called the interview “devasting” and said their revelations are a “body blow” to the royal family. Meghan later reached out to her friend Diana, Princess of Wales, because she felt unsupported by the palace. In the end, Meghan said Harry saved her life by agreeing to move to Los Angeles.
