U.S. House Session Ends After Threats of Violence

Security officials warned about a possible threat by an unnamed militant group to breach the capital.

What We Know:

  • On Wednesday night, officials were alarmed about an emergency threat of violence circulated by right-wing extremists possible plot that will assault the Capitol building, which would happen on March 4. As previously reported by Black News Alerts, the request was issued ahead of speculation that a protest from the conspiracy theorists group QAnon might occur, based on online forums. Library of Congress states that until the ratification of the twentieth amendment in 1933, the official day for the presidential inauguration was March 4. The conspiracy theorists group believed that the Democrats would get arrested and Trump will be “re-inaugurated.” 
  • According to Congress, “On February 22, 2019, a Trump Administration United States Department of Justice official wrote in a New York Times op-ed that “white supremacy and far-right extremism are among the greatest domestic-security threats facing the United States. Regrettably, over the past 25 years, law enforcement has been slow to respond at both the Federal and State levels. Killings committed by individuals and groups associated with far-right extremist groups have risen significantly.
  • On Thursday, crews were out to clean the Capitol Building’s broken windows and defaced halls from the Capitol Riot that happened earlier this year. The insurrection of the U.S Capitol Building was by several riotous supporters of President Donald Trump.
  • Congress member Timothy Blodgett wrote that the Capitol Police had received “new and concerning information and intelligence indicating additional interest in the Capitol for the dates of March 4th – 6th by a militia group,” ABC7 News reported.

There was no talk on social media leading up to January 6, a day that Trump promoted his rally and encouraged thousands to go to the nation’s capital. There was also no talk on social media about what could happen on March 6. The lawmakers will not be meet up in the capital because of the threat made on March 3.
