Jamie Foxx is bringing a brand new comedy show to Netflix based on the relationship between himself and his daughter.
What We Know:
- Dad Stop Embarrassing Me is the title of Netflix’s new comedy set to premiere on April 14th. The show is based on the relationship Foxx has with his daughter, Corrine Foxx. 27-year-old Corrine will co-executive produce the show along with her father. Her character’s name in the show is Sasha, played by actress Kyla Drew-Simmons. Jamie Foxx will lead as the father in the show. His character Brian is the owner of a cosmetics company and is being described as a “successful business owner” and “bachelor.”
- The show will mark the first television show Foxx has been the lead for in 20 years. His first show, The Jamie Foxx Show, aired from 1996 to 2001. Foxx’s first debut on television was 30 years-ago via In Living Color. It was there he met a flurry of talented people, including David Alan Grier, who is also appearing in Dad Stop Embarrassing Me. Grier will portray a character named Pops in the likeness of Foxx’s real step-father. Allegedly, Foxx will play multiple characters in the show similar to his In Living Color days.
-
The show’s plot seems to be about the father, Brian, being thrust into a relationship with his daughter. A single bachelor that’s forced to learn the responsibility of raising their child should be the perfect recipe for comedic hijinks. Not to mention the fact Jamie is an embarrassing parent in real life as well.
“I was cheering at my final game in high school, and I look into the crowd and my whole family is there in T-shirts with my face on them,” Corrine recalls. “It’s 15 people, and my dad is the ringleader. The last thing a teenage girl ever wants is their dad drawing attention to themselves in that way.”
- According to Corrine, the show’s dynamic will play on the moments her dad embarrassed her in real life. Dad Stop Embarrassing Me will air eight 30-minute episodes in its first season.
Jamie Foxx’s 30-year career is rooted in comedy, so it will be exciting to see the A-Lister perform again with new ideas.
