A single lottery ticket holder in Maryland has just won millions.
What We Know:
- NBC reported that the $731 million prize Powerball ticket was purchased on Wednesday night. The winning numbers for the Powerball drawing were: 40-53-60-68-69 and a Powerball of 22. The odds of winning are extremely rare, with roughly a 1 in 292.2 million chance at taking home the jackpot.
- Currently, it is not clear where in Maryland the winning ticket was purchased. However, this winning ticket holds the keys to the fourth-largest jackpot in the history of the game. Nobody has won the Powerball jackpot since mid-September of last year.
- According to the NY Post, the $731 million jackpot advertised is only for winners who choose an annuity option, paid over 30 years. Most winners opt to take a significant cut of the winnings in exchange for a cash prize, which would be about $546 million for Wednesday’s Powerball winner. This amount is also subject to federal tax or state deductions.
- Recently, lottery jackpots have been reaching record high numbers, including a Mega Millions jackpot of $970 million that is still up for grabs. This is the first time both Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpots have topped $700 million at the same time.
