Shark Bites Florida Man Who Walked Home Profusely Bleeding

On Tuesday, a Florida man walked home profusely bleeding after being bitten by a shark.

What We Know:

  • An unidentified man was swimming off the coast of Siesta Key, 70 miles south of Tampa when a shark attacked him. The man attempted to walk home despite his injuries.
  • In a report by NBC News, an unidentified woman called 911 explaining a shark had bitten the 39-year-old man’s arm and hand. The man was still responsive despite being described as “pale” and “bleeding to death” by the caller.
  • The dispatcher instructed the woman to help the man stop the bleeding until the medical team arrived. According to USA Today, the woman can be heard reassuring the man, saying, “everything’s going to be OK”.
  • The severity of his injuries and his condition is unknown. Sarasota Memorial Hospital commented that they hospitalized a man and treated them for a shark bite Tuesday.
  • The attack comes as part of a series of unprovoked shark attacks in Florida. A man suffered an attack in the Florida Keys in September. In October, a 31-year-old man sustained an 8-inch cut on his leg after the attack on Miami Beach.

No further details are available. Florida leads the world with the most shark attacks, a total of 853 since 1837.
