Lizzo is back in hot water after sharing her juice cleanse journey on social media.
What We Know:
- Earlier this week, Lizzo took to Tiktok to share what she eats in a day following a 10-day detoxing juice cleanse. Since then, the 32-year-old Grammy-award winning singer has had to defend herself against critics who claim the detox goes against her ‘body positive’ brand.
- According to The Huffington Post, people on Twitter felt that they had been “betrayed” by Lizzo, a “plus-size goddess,” who once promoted body-positivity. Now, they commented on her detox, calling it “toxic” and “irresponsible” in regards to her “glamorizing” diet culture and her potential influence on others.
@lizzopractice safe detoxification y’all.
- Lizzo fired back at haters via an Instagram story with a series of videos explaining her decisions to detox and a text that wrote: “So, I did the 10-day smoothie detox. As you know, I would normally be so afraid and ashamed to post things like this online because I feel like as a big girl, people just expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for a dramatic weight loss, and that is not the case,” she explained, “Big girls do whatever u want with your bodies!!!”
- She also went on to say that her nutritionist-approved her detox after she had struggled with stomach issues from eating spicy foods and experiencing high levels of stress. In addition, Lizzo claims to feel better than ever, both mentally and physically, after the cleanse.
Sorry Lizzo haters, it looks like this body-image icon is feeling good as hell.
