The Coronavirus pandemic is reaching record-breaking case numbers and has claimed the lives of millions – including one whom some might’ve called the “Queen of New Orleans.”
What We Know:
- According to CNN, American actress, Carol Sutton, has died at age 76 from COVID-19. Sutton was diagnosed with the virus and hospitalized on November 17th following breathing complications. She passed away last Thursday. The announcement was made by Mayor LaToya Cantrell, who praised the actress for her work, stating that Sutton “was practically the Queen of New Orleans theater, having graced the stages across the city for decades.”
- Carol Sutton, who played roles in theater, film, and television, was most known for her scenes in Queen Sugar, Steel Magnolias, Ray, A Raisin in the Sun, The Help, American Horror Story, and The Big Easy.
- Sutton made her television debut in 1974 in “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman,” She then went on to feature in multiple streams of acting -despite refusing to relocate and leave her hometown in New Orleans.
- New Orleans actor John Bostic described her on-stage performances as “mesmerizing.” He made a statement saying, “She was incredibly adept at her craft. The thing about a great actress like Carol is that when you see her on stage, you don’t see Carol; you see whom she’s portraying. She could do anything, pretty much.”
