Issa Rae is currently developing a new series that will premiere on HBO. In addition to this, she is also working on other projects.
What We Know:
- HBO’s Insecure star Issa Rae is on the move to team up with producer Adam McKay to transform the five-part podcast series “Nice White Parents” into a half-hour scripted series. The podcast, launched in July, was reported and hosted by Joffe-Walt. The show was renewed for a fifth season back in May.
- HBO reportedly outbid the Obamas and Netflix for the rights and already has a pilot created. The company released a description stating the half-hour comedy is “a satirical look at the conflict and comedy that arise when highly resourced white parents, who claim to have the best intentions, wield their influence over generations of black and brown students within the NY public school system.”
- With a power team of producers, Issa Rae’s team, HooRae Media, alongside Adam McKay’s team will join the original production team of Serial Productions to executive produce the show. According to Variety, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman will executive produce via Hyperobject Industries, which is currently under a first-look deal with HBO. Chana Joffe-Walt, Julie Snyder, Alissa Shipp, and Sarah Koenig of Serial Productions will also executive produce along with Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry of 3 Arts Entertainment. Sara Rastogi of HooRae will produce.
- According to Hollywood Reporter, Nice White Parents will be produced in-house at HBO, where both Issa and Adam McKay’s companies are housed.
- Issa is also developing a number of projects at HBO, including a series about backyard wrestling along with Dwayne Johnson. In addition to Insecure, Rae also exec produces HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show and is attached to star in and EP the Cabbage Patch-focused limited series The Dolls.
Issa Rae has her work cut out for her while working on two additional shows and now this one. There’s no chance that she’ll be leaving HBO any time soon.
