Mayweather Set to Box Against Logan Paul

Undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather confirmed his rumored fight against Youtube star Logan Paul.

What We Know:

  • The retired champion announced the super exhibition bout yesterday on his Instagram. An exhibition fight does not count towards either boxer’s professional record. It is scheduled to take place on February 20, 2021 and will be streamed through pay-per-view on Fanmio.com. The first one million customers will have the opportunity to buy the match for $24.99, from there the price will increase to $39.99. By February 11th the cost will jump to $69.99.

  • Holding a record of 50-0 with 27 knockouts, Mayweather (43) is widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time. He retired from the ring in 2017 after defeating UFC champion Conor McGregor. Since then he has only participated in one other exhibition against kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa two years ago in Japan.
  • Paul (25), on the other hand, has only fought in one professional fight in which he was defeated by British Youtuber and rapper KSI. The announcement of his exhibition bout with Mayweather comes about a week after his younger brother, Jake Paul, shocked viewers by knocking out former NBA player Nate Robinson.
  • For some time now Paul has been gunning for his time in the ring with the boxing superstar. Last month he told TMZ he’d snap Mayweather in half if he caught him with a single punch. He added, “Let me tell you this, if I caught Floyd in a real fight, street fight, whoop his a**! No question.” He believed the only safe place for Mayweather is in the boxing ring, but this did not seem to phase Paul who asserted he would fight him “anytime, anywhere, any place”. Comparing their physical characteristics the social media influencer confidently boasted that he is taller, heavier, and half the age of his opponent. He claimed beating up people weaker and shorter than him is nothing new, seeing as he grew up with Jake.
  • Mayweather shot back at Paul in November on Twitter writing, “These YouTube girls better find some Barbie dolls to play with cause I’m not the one for the kid games. 3 years ago a fighter from the UFC said my name and I had to put a muzzle on that b*****. @loganpaul can get the same treatment before I go conquer Japan again.”
  • With the official news of the fight out Mayweather has commented that this will be “a great night for fans worldwide.” He acknowledges going against someone like Logan Paul is different than what viewers are used to, but he has never been one to shy away from unconventional opportunities. Paul also commented saying he is “all in” and come February “the world could witness the greatest upset in the history of sports”.

With consideration of each fighter’s sizeable fanbase, the exhibition is expected to generate a large audience. While some fans are calling the fight a disgrace, many are still intrigued by the strange matchup and plan to tune in.
