- This is James’ third win since 2016. His last wins were in 2012 and 2016.
- This is not the only accomplishment James has made this year. In the 2020 season, James led the Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship. Averaging 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game, James also earned the 2020 Finals MVP title.
- Each athlete has demonstrated athlete activism during the course of the year. Off the court, James had a hand in racial justice, education reform, and African American empowerment. James was among a group of NBA players who used their platforms to speak out on police brutality, racial inequality, and voting initiatives which included addressing the shootings of unarmed black men and women such as George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and Jacob Blake.
- Lebron became a part of a leadership group comprised of Black athletes and promoted the “More Than a Vote” campaign. It’s a voting rights organization comprised of prominent Black athletes and artists. The group helped sign up over 10,000 volunteer poll workers in its efforts to combat voter suppression. In addition, LeBron James will receive the 2020 Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award in honor of his social activism efforts during a year filled with uncertainty and division according to Sports Illustrated.
