A man ran into a Houston neighborhood claiming he had been kidnapped.
What We Know:
- On Thursday night, over a dozen people were rescued from a home in Houston, Texas. According to NBC News, Officers forced entry into the home after a man escaped, wearing only his underwear, and then claimed he had been kidnapped while others remained captive inside.
- The police found 29 men and 1 woman in the home in what is believed to be a human smuggling operation. Those rescued reported being from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, or Cuba. The victims were taken to a nearby high school gymnasium and given food and clothing donated by the community.
- Police Commander Jonathon Halliday told NBC News, “Most of the people said they were picked up in Brownsville between two days and a week ago and that they were being held there.”
- KPRC reported that police have arrested three people and have taken them into custody under the suspicion that they were hired to smuggle people into the United States. The victims will likely be taken to an immigration facility.
The Department of Homeland Security is investigating the situation.
