Gucci Mane Announces ‘Verzuz’ Battle With Jeezy

Gucci Mane has announced that he will replace T.I. in the season 2 premiere of Verzuz against fellow Atlanta rapper, Jeezy.

What We Know:

  • Gucci Mane and Jeezy have had a long-standing hostility between them since 2005. It began with a disagreement about the rights to Gucci’s 2005 single “Icy”, leading up to the murder of Pookie Loc, an associate of Jeezy’s. Loc had been involved in a robbery at Gucci Mane’s home, where he was shot and killed by the rapper. The charges, however, were dropped against Gucci, who claimed he acted in self-defense.
  • Now nearly two decades later, both rappers will appear on the season opener of Verzuz, a series created by producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz and introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Although it isn’t known why T.I. dropped out of the episode against Jeezy, the rapper had previously conversed with Jeezy in his podcast ExpediTIously regarding the fued, where he showed his support for the rappers extinguishing the hostility. T.I. also showed his support for the rappers’ battle on the show.

  • In an interview last week with The Breakfast Club, Jeezy said that he had previously asked Gucci Mane to join him on Verzuz but the rapper “respectfully declined” when asked by Swizz Beatz. Gucci later tweeted, “Stop asking me about doing a @verzuzonline battle unless they got a million dollars they scared of Wop.”
  • On Saturday night, Gucci Mane announced his feature on the show by tweeting, “Tell buddy get ready @verzuzonline”,  adding a caption to a poster of the event, “TrapGod vs SnoCone”.

The official instagram of the show posted, “We listened to the people and had to reshuffle the deck on ‘em. Gucci Mane vs Jeezy 💥 This is not a false alarm 🚨 The Super Bowl of the South.🔥 Some said it would NEVER happen, but it’s finally ON.” The episode airs this Thursday, Nov. 19th, at 5pm PT/8pm ET on Instagram or Apple Music.
