The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will be streaming a 30th Anniversary reunion on HBO Max at the end of this week. Both Aunt Viv actresses will be present.

What We Know:

  • The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air aired on September 10, 1990, on NBC making this past September its 30th anniversary. A reunion is set to air on HBO Max this Thursday. It will include the original cast, including both ladies who played Aunt Vivian, Janet Hubert, and Daphne Maxwell Reid. The show itself was one of the most popular shows in television history, running until 1996.
  • According to theGrio, there haven’t been many details released saying what the reunion will be about, but there will probably be some kind of tribute to the late actor James Avery, who played Uncle Phil on the show. He passed away at the age of 68 back in 2013. During the show’s airing, it had a huge impact on black culture and other heavy-hitting topics such as racial issues, absent fathers, and many others. The show has won two NAACP Image Awards and nominated for at least thirty others. It starred Will Smith as himself, a poor teenager who was sent to live with his Aunt and Uncle after a fight on the playground in his hometown of West Philadelphia.

  • Since Hubert and Reid will be included in the reunion, it’ll be interesting to see. The two actresses’ complexions were a matter of controversy as some felt Reid was a replacement for Hubert due to her fairer complexion. When this happened, it was particularly difficult to accept the sudden change in the Aunt Vivian Banks character because the two women who played her looked nothing alike.
  • In order to watch the reunion, you will need a subscription to HBO Max. If you don’t have one, they have a 7-day free trial available, and then it’s $14.99 a month afterward.

People all over the world are excited and preparing for this reunion. The show itself will never be forgotten and will always be in remembrance of Uncle Phil. You can watch the trailer for the reunion here.
